Summary

After an epic and interrupted journey all the way from the snows of South Dakota, Jack Reacher has finally made it to Virginia。 His destination: a sturdy stone building a short bus ride from Washington D。C。, the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP。 It was the closest thing to a home he ever had。

Why? He wants to meet the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner。 He liked her voice on the phone。 But the officer sitting behind Reacher's old desk isn't a woman。 Why is Susan Turner not there?

What Reacher doesn't expect is what comes next。 He himself is in big trouble, accused of a sixteen-year-old homicide。 And he certainly doesn't expect to hear these words: 'You're back in the army, Major。 And your ass is mine。'

Will he be sorry he went back? Or - will someone else?

Not bad, not great。 A fun fantasy where you don't really know what's going on until later in the book。 Not bad, not great。 A fun fantasy where you don't really know what's going on until later in the book。 。。。more

If a more straightforward film adaptation had allowed Tom Cruise to steal a meth-head’s sports car and ruin the days of his hillbilly cousins, it still would’ve been bad。 But at least it wouldn’t have been the worst film of Cruise’s career。 Lots of promise in the first half here, particularly with Turner interrogating the internal drive of Reacher, but the rest just sails off the rails with long telephonic exposition dumps, long diner-countertop exposition dumps, long standing-in-a-courtyard-whi If a more straightforward film adaptation had allowed Tom Cruise to steal a meth-head’s sports car and ruin the days of his hillbilly cousins, it still would’ve been bad。 But at least it wouldn’t have been the worst film of Cruise’s career。 Lots of promise in the first half here, particularly with Turner interrogating the internal drive of Reacher, but the rest just sails off the rails with long telephonic exposition dumps, long diner-countertop exposition dumps, long standing-in-a-courtyard-while-the-bad-guys-kill-themselves exposition dumps, and just plain dumps。 。。。more

There is such a thing as stretching out an arc too far。 I found certain elements of the story very frustrating and again felt there were artificial delays for no good reason。 I'm sure it gets hard to think of new story lines which fit the character and keep fans engaged by the time an author is writing the 18th novel。 I can feel the author fatigue and understand it。 It made for a slightly annoying book though。 There is such a thing as stretching out an arc too far。 I found certain elements of the story very frustrating and again felt there were artificial delays for no good reason。 I'm sure it gets hard to think of new story lines which fit the character and keep fans engaged by the time an author is writing the 18th novel。 I can feel the author fatigue and understand it。 It made for a slightly annoying book though。 。。。more

Pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a Jack Reacher novel。 Four stars instead of five because most of the characters sounded similar。 Very readable and very enjoyable to read。 Pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a Jack Reacher novel。 Four stars instead of five because most of the characters sounded similar。 Very readable and very enjoyable to read。 。。。more

Found a couple more Jack Reacher books and marked them off my list。 Good entertainment with all the twists and turns。

When Lee Child writes Jack Reacher right, as he usually does, he creates, at the very least, a thriller。 More often he creates a character that is an inspiration, an antidote, to our own mundane lives of frustration and regret。 When Child gets Reacher right, I almost want to stand up and cheer。 ‘Never Go Back’ doesn’t quite hit the author’s usual standard。 Yes, I enjoyed it。 Yes, I read it quickly。 But there was a suspicion that I was turning the page not simply to find out what happens, but als When Lee Child writes Jack Reacher right, as he usually does, he creates, at the very least, a thriller。 More often he creates a character that is an inspiration, an antidote, to our own mundane lives of frustration and regret。 When Child gets Reacher right, I almost want to stand up and cheer。 ‘Never Go Back’ doesn’t quite hit the author’s usual standard。 Yes, I enjoyed it。 Yes, I read it quickly。 But there was a suspicion that I was turning the page not simply to find out what happens, but also in the hope that it was going to improve。 The book suffers from a plot that is slightly worn - no matter most are。 But also from telling that is a little lacklustre。 At times elements of the story line seemed to be included simply to enhance the Reacher legend。 At times the seemingly endless miles of travel seemed to be of limited value。 Most disappointing was the manner in which the plot seemed to be driven by telephone calls, often from behind the scenes characters who are helping our protagonists。 The result feels contrived and slow。 All round an enjoyable read, but not the best of the Reacher series。 Everyone is entitled to a slightly below par day at the office and perhaps this was one for Mr Child。 I’m still looking forward to the next。 。。。more

Very entertaining conspiracy thrillerI love the way Lee Child writes his characters。 This book has a conspiracy that sends Reacher and his new friend Susan Turner from coast to coast。 They are fighting to clear their names and bring down the bad guys。 Very entertaining!

Always dependable another reacher page turner。

Reacher and Turner finally break out and find the missing pieces。

it was a good story but somewhat complicated and it stretched believe-ability a little bit。

A great combination of action, thrill and a typical Hollywood style scripture。。。

I finished A Wanted Man a few days ago。 I feel like this was written by a different author。 The plot was more engaging for me。 Whether or not all these things could happen or be resolved in the real world, I wouldn’t know。

The beginning of this story 📖 was good。 As I read on this story 📖 became boring。

Generally I liked the book as with most of the previous Reacher books, providing a good amount of action。 However, it didn't have a top-quality, stimulating story or any further character development of Reacher on top of the action, which was a bit disappointing and meant there wasn't much to distinguish it from some of the previous Reacher books。 I rate it around 3。5-3。75 out of 5。 Generally I liked the book as with most of the previous Reacher books, providing a good amount of action。 However, it didn't have a top-quality, stimulating story or any further character development of Reacher on top of the action, which was a bit disappointing and meant there wasn't much to distinguish it from some of the previous Reacher books。 I rate it around 3。5-3。75 out of 5。 。。。more

I went ahead and read this even though I was told I already had。 If so, I don't remember reading it, just watching the movie。 While most of these novels really go the same way, this one brought a them to some of the characters motives that really pointed out how convenient everything is。 Many times he mentioned something was like flipping a coin, and while that may have been true, watching all of those times where the coin seems to flip his way, makes it a little to much luck for one person。 I w I went ahead and read this even though I was told I already had。 If so, I don't remember reading it, just watching the movie。 While most of these novels really go the same way, this one brought a them to some of the characters motives that really pointed out how convenient everything is。 Many times he mentioned something was like flipping a coin, and while that may have been true, watching all of those times where the coin seems to flip his way, makes it a little to much luck for one person。 I was also a bit disappointed with the ending of the main action of the book as it was a little anticlimactic in my opinion。 While it won't turn me away from reading more books in this series, I will say this one seems to have been one of the ones I wouldn't have been upset to skip。 。。。more

This installment of the Jack Reacher series didn’t quite do it for me。 I liked it okay, simply because I love Reacher。 The plot was lacking suspense and moments of intense energy。

Great tie back Nice to see the total package of Reacher from feral to compassionate with the tone of deep kindness。 I like the route through WV, personally。 Very well done。 Montani Semper Liberi。

I don't know what it is about these Jack Reacher books, the characters are often one dimensional, the dialogue is often stilted, and yet I enjoy reading Reacher's adventures from time to time。 This book is the one the second Jack Reacher movie was based upon。 There were similarities, of course, but the book and movie are very different。 I liked the movie better, other than the fact that I think Tom Cruise was totally miscast; wrong height, wrong build, wrong hair color。。。but I digress。The young I don't know what it is about these Jack Reacher books, the characters are often one dimensional, the dialogue is often stilted, and yet I enjoy reading Reacher's adventures from time to time。 This book is the one the second Jack Reacher movie was based upon。 There were similarities, of course, but the book and movie are very different。 I liked the movie better, other than the fact that I think Tom Cruise was totally miscast; wrong height, wrong build, wrong hair color。。。but I digress。The young girl, who was possibly Reacher's daughter, had a much bigger part in the movie version of the story。 The ending of the book was anticlimactic but the overall story was good, in the sense that a story about two people on the run, trying to clear their names and figure out why they were framed in the first place, is pretty much always interesting。 。。。more

You always know what you're going to get with Reacher books, the same elements are in everyone。I enjoyed the story in this one but the repetition of certain phrases was just too much。"50/50 like flipping a coin""Reacher said nothing" You always know what you're going to get with Reacher books, the same elements are in everyone。I enjoyed the story in this one but the repetition of certain phrases was just too much。"50/50 like flipping a coin""Reacher said nothing" 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 It is a Reacher story, what's not to like?Maybe the fact that it felt like Lee Child wanted to end the series with this book and that it has one of the anticlimactic ending of all Reacher books。I like the story, I really enjoyed the supposed daughter angle and that he finally meets Turner。And it all comes down to a morning at a house in Washington?Very disappointed in the ending。 It is a Reacher story, what's not to like?Maybe the fact that it felt like Lee Child wanted to end the series with this book and that it has one of the anticlimactic ending of all Reacher books。I like the story, I really enjoyed the supposed daughter angle and that he finally meets Turner。And it all comes down to a morning at a house in Washington?Very disappointed in the ending。 。。。more
